A Dictator in the Making

Candidates for the leadership of democratic countries spend months campaigning. They engage their opponents in debates of ideas and they usually market their social and economic plans to the electorate.

This is not General Michel Aoun’s style. He kicks, screams, swears and abuses. He did not learn anything from his exile in France.

"Lebanon is a ranch that can be purchased. Whoever thinks so will not be staying in the country for much longer," he said yesterday.

Where is the positive message in that? What is his plan to make things better?

He calls his opponents liars, cheats and thieves but has nothing to show in counterpart.

Furthermore, I remember very well when he once proudly stated that he was behind resolution 1559, today his speech shifted completely: “"The United Nations handed down Resolution 1559 without any regard for our (Lebanese) will," he said yesterday.

This man is dangerous. He is a dictator in the making. It is really disappointing for I once believed in him.

the actual sentences of aoun and its context:

"He claimed the billionaire heir to the assassinated ex-pm, Rafik Hariri, believed "Lebanon is a ranch that can be purchased. Whoever thinks so will not be staying in the country for much longer."

The government, which is largely loyal to the Hariris was comprised of "liars… (who) have failed to honor one sentence of the 34-page policy statement" that won them a vote of confidence in Parliament a year ago."

""They are cowards. They were humiliated by the Syrians, and they still feel intimidated by the mere mention of Syria," he said. "In contrast, we confronted them (the Syrians). When the confrontation ended, we requested the best of relations.""

at least when u re talking about something, u should place it into its context to be able to present it accuratly otherwise you are misleading your readers and here it seems it is on purpose

I'm not sure how placing the sentence in the context changes any of the meaning. If anything it makes it more shocking, and further convinces me, that you have to seriously be brainwashed or on drugs to follow a lunatic like Aoun (And this in no way means that I support any of the other dogs out there, but I am sick of people elevating Aoun as a Saint, while in truth, he shares the same caracteristics as all the other actors on the Lebanese scene :
1. Blood on his hands
2. Lots of money (go figure where that comes from)
3. Personal interest drives party machine (in this case, baking his nuts in the Presidential pool)

A dictator in the making indeed!

I guess he forgot his own humiliation in 1990-1991 due to his poor judgment that cost Lebanon dearly. He claims all previous politicians collaborated with the Syrians - what other options did they have when there was a world decision for Syrian hegemony in Lebanon? He is so eager to become the next president, he denies it but it is written all over him. He wants the government to resign and he is calling for early elections hoping to gain more seats in parliament to get him elected. He thinks by making others look bad he will look good. He claims he had been insulted when he is throwing insults left and right.

I don't see what good Aoun can bring to this country.

Libnanews is completly right

the way the post is written seems to say: aoun considers lebanon as a ranch, the actual way how he said it is that hariri considers lebanon as a ranch

it s a biast post, showing everything that real journalists should avoid, and how the meaning of the sentences removed from their original context is changed.

the anonymous lost its tempter about it as he is not didnt see it from a professional journalistic and analytic point of view.
it is a real illustration how people like anonymous are getting brainwashed by the local ambiance consisting of not analysing the fact into their contexts and just after that making judging the information. however being intoxicated by the general brainwashing ambiance, i m feeling that he wont ever succeed to do so
